TAILOR MADE WALKING TOURS

Tailor-Made Tours originated in 2001, born from the Foot and Mouth epidemic that closed the Irish countryside to walkers and enthusiasts of any country pursuit. In a manic, panic stricken period of Irish social history, the agricultural and tourism communities waited with bated breath for the re-opening of Irish rural life, while our UK neighbours fought case after case, closed farm after farm. The hysteria subsided and in May 2001 life cautiously started again. In a scramble to re-establish rural tourism, Tailor-Made Tours offered our first walking itineraries.

Eleven years later, we still offer the same routes, through an ever changing landscape. While the mountains remain the same, the rural face has seen the boom of the Celtic Tiger years, the crash of 2008 and an indelible change to our social fabric. The country reflects the furiously changing pace of the greater world, the collapse of our economy and that of our EU partners. But far away from the madness.....

there is always walking. There are always old trails, tracks of our forefathers, working routes of your ancestors. Before there were vehicles and transport, there was walking. There are mass paths, funeral roads, butter roads, droving roads, forest rides...awaiting the feet of those who want to discover their own experience of Ireland. There is village life, agriculture, tourism; the mainstays of our economy for hundreds of years and that to which we will return.

What is the enduring comment over the years from our clients? The friendliness of the people they meet. The ability and willingness to go that extra mile for visitors. This is the Ireland I want you to be in.
